My approach to creativity…

My art is like a mirrored ball. Each fragment or sliver is a reflection of an idea, mood, feeling or even a complication of sorts. Sometimes I follow a reference, but even then, I infuse the subjects with an identity uniquely their own. Other times I express myself, simply with color.

I have been influenced by moving around the United States a good bit; the hills of West Virginia, California, the Jersey shore, and the farmlands of Missouri and Indiana. Most recently my muses often come from the vineyards and lakeshores of southwest Michigan. I love to travel, so I can people watch and feel the vibe of an area. Looking for my next painting.

I have been inspired by a large array of “colorful” people. I’ve enjoyed horses, gardening, antiquing, and cooking. Most recently my passion is experimenting with other artists and teaching students of all ages.

Through my art, I work the colors and images to carry my audience to a new viewpoint or whimsical moment. In the end, we are all connected by the same fragments and slivers.

Original Watercolors

I Paint What I find inspiRation in!

I paint almost every day. It centers me and gives me joy. These paintings are based on photos I take from my travels and just whatever I see that is striking in everyday life. My original paintings celebrate color and the process of water and pigment interacting. I make some of these originals available for sale (the ones I need to part with to make room on my easel for more). Please know that when you chose to buy an original it is one-of-a-kind and from a creative place in my heart.

“I’d been wanting to buy a Dori Beth painting for a long time...her use of color is so captivating, it draws me in.  When I saw “Carry On My Wayward Seed,” a connection so strong and irresistible came over me that I had to own it.  When I saw the painting in person, I literally cried!  Such a soulful and complex piece, at the same time reflecting beauty, sadness, joy, life, death, hope, and the whisper of a promise.  I’ve hung the painting near my bed; it’s the last thing I see before drifting off, the first thing upon waking.”

Commissioned Artwork

I Paint what inspires you!

I love creating commissioned artwork celebrating your family, pets, a favorite place, or anything that brings you joy. To start I need some photos so we can talk about your commission. Then I create a 16” x 20” custom watercolor painting using the highest quality pigments and paper. See FAQ for Pricing.

I get very busy as the holidays approach and I would hate to have to say no because of last-minute requests. Please allow 4-6 weeks for completion.

Group Classes

Let’s paint together!

I love teaching group classes to help you find your own creativity and talent you might not know you have.

Class sizes run from 6—12 maximum. It is a fun day of instruction, hand-on painting, conversation and laughter. We all paint a subject that is chosen in advance. You leave class with a nearly finished painting.

Check out the “Events” page to see upcoming classes and more details!
